LibreTexts (libretexts.org) and Learnful (learnful.io) have committed to coordinate their activities to design, develop, and promote open source technologies for open education.
The two organizations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support their intention to work collaboratively on issues of mutual concern.
The missions of LibreTexts and Learnful are complementary as both organizations have sought to build open and inclusive platforms to support open education.
LibreTexts is the largest open educational resource (OER) project online. The LibreTexts mission is to unite students, faculty and scholars in a cooperative effort to develop an easy-to-use online platform for the construction, customization, and dissemination of open educational resources (OER) to reduce the burdens of unreasonable textbook costs to our students and society. Begun in 2008 as the ChemWiki, the LibreTexts project is comprised of 13 discipline specific libraries, as well as a Spanish translation library; an open source homework/assessment system, Adapt; an open source H5P library, LibreStudio; a new Commons&Conductor catalog and project management system; and more.
Learnful Labs Inc. (link to: learnful.io), headquartered in Waterloo Ontario Canada, is an education technology software development firm that builds open-source tools and platforms for education and research. Since in 2016, Learnful has played an essential role in supporting online and open education and North America. Learnful’s platforms, including Learnful.ca and OER Studio, have been used by over 7000 educators to create over 45,000 OER.
The MOU establishes a framework for cooperation, coordination, consultation and information sharing on matters related to OER authoring and publishing, learning analytics, and open source technology development.
